Baseball: Class 7A-6A region semifinal breakdown — may 13

Here are the capsules for Class 7A-6A area baseball teams playing in tonight’s region semifinals. The winners advance to Tuesday’s region finals. 

Class 7A

Durant (18-8) at Windermere (24-3), 4:30

The Cougars are on a five-game win streak. They have allowed one run or less in three of those victories, including a shutout of Sarasota in the region quarterfinals. To advance, Durant will have to get past the Wolverines, who are ranked second in the class and seventh overall in the state by MaxPreps.

The Panthers, ranked sixth in the class by MaxPreps, are playing well in the postseason. They have outscored foes by a combined 21-1 during their current three-game win streak.

Class 6A

Strawberry Crest (19-8) at Wharton (20-7), 7

This is the second meeting between the teams. The Wildcats rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the fourth, to win the first one, 4-3. Since that loss, the Chargers have won five of their last six games. The Wildcats have won straight games thanks to a prolific offense that is averaging more than nine runs per game during that streak.
