Class 4A
Parrish Community (19-10) at Dunedin (19-8), 6:30
The defending state semifinalist Falcons advanced thanks to an outstanding performance from ace Trey Beard, who threw a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a region quarterfinal win over Wesley Chapel. Beard also has the single season school for strikeouts with 119. The Bulls rebounded from a 1-5 stretch last month to win 10 of their last 11 games. Six of those victories have come via shutouts.

Trailing 2-0 to Hardee in the region quarterfinals, the Leopards won it on Gabe Tafelski’s walk-off three-run double. It was just the second of the night for Hernando. The Blue Streaks, ranked seventh in the class by MaxPreps, enter on a three-game win streak.

This is the fourth meeting between the rivals this season. The Warriors, ranked first in the class, third overall in the state and fourth nationally, have dominated the series this year, winning all three. The Buccaneers, ranked second in the class and ninth statewide and nationally, have to produce more on offense to reverse the trend. They have a combined nine hits and four runs in the series so far this year.

The Terrapins beat Fort Myers Bishop Verot in the quarterfinals thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Will Sotiropoulis, who threw six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and finishing with seven strikeouts. Tampa Prep has now won nine of its last 10 games. The Vikings, who have won five straight games, are ranked fifth in the class by MaxPreps.
