Here is the capsule for the lone area team playing in today’s region final. The winner advances to next week’s state semifinals.
Canterbury (11-18) at Fort Myers Evangelical Christian (20-6), 11 a.m.
This is a rematch from a game the Sentinels won 25-4 in March. The defending state champion Crusaders have improved considerably since then and enter on a five-game win streak, including a 6-4 victory over Academy at the Lakes in the region semifinals. Canterbury rallied from a 4-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to tie it and adding two more in the sixth to go ahead for good. Evangelical Christian, ranked second in the class by MaxPreps, has won eight straight games. In their last four games, the Sentinels outscored foes by a combined 61-0.
