Softball: Class 3A region final breakdown — May 20

Here is the capsule for the lone area team playing in tonight’s 3A region finals. The winner moves on to next week’s state semifinals.

South Sumter (17-9) at Hernando (23-4), 4:30

This is a rematch from a game the Leopards won 2-1 in the 3A-6 district final. The game, held at Tom Varn Park, was moved up to 4:30 to avoid potential rain. The defending state finalist Leopards are one game away from returning to Clermont. They enter on a 14-game win streak, including a 5-1 victory over Windermere Prep in the region semifinals earlier this week. Hannah Lynch went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the offense. Ava Braswell threw a five-hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out nine. The Raiders have won their first two playoff games by a combined 12-2.
