Here are the nominees for the Hillsborough County baseball player of the week. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Friday.
Durant: The Cougars, the No. 3 seed, battled through tough competition, beating Plant City 1-0 in the semifinals and Newsome 7-5 in the final to win the Class 7A, District 6 title.
Jesuit: The Tigers dominated the Class 5A, District 6 tournament, beating Jefferson 11-1 in the semifinals and Freedom 4-0 in the final to take home the title.
Plant: The district champion Panthers relied on stellar pitching to beat Steinbrenner 10-0 in the semifinals and Alonso 3-1 in the final of the Class 7A, District 7 tournament.
Seffner Christian: The No. 1 seed Crusaders won the Class 2A, District 10 tournament by beating Academy at the Lakes 3-1 in the semifinals and Foundation Christian 3-0 in the final.
Sickles: The district champion Gryphons beat Largo 13-0 in the semifinals and Gaither 8-3 in the Class 6A, District 6 tournament.
Strawberry Crest: The No. 1 seed Chargers won the Class 6A, District 7 title by beating Armwood 16-6 in the semifinals and Bloomingdale 3-2 in the final.
Sumner: The Stingrays won their first district title in school history, beating Brandon 6-3 in the semifinals and Braden River 6-4in the final of the Class 5A, District 7 tournament.
Tampa Prep: The No. 1 seed Terrapins won the Class 3A, District 5 tournament by beating Carrollwood Day 9-7 in the semifinals and Tampa Catholic 3-1 in the final.
Wharton: The Wildcats offense came together at the right time with wins over Mitchell (7-1) in the semifinals and Land O’ Lakes (15-9) in the final to take home the Class 6A, District 5 title.
