Football: Getting to know Jesuit’s Troy Bowles — Aug. 10

Troy Bowles is blessed with athletic bloodlines.

The Jesuit linebacker’s father is Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles. Troy’s older brother, Todd Jr., is now a sophomore defensive back at Rutgers.

During his career at Jesuit, Troy has used that defensive pedigree to his advantage. He has racked up a combined 271 tackles in his first three seasons, including 103 last year when he helped lead the Tigers to a state title.

That penchant for bringing down opposing ball carriers allowed Troy to rocket up the rankings. The four-star recruit is listed as the nation’s No. 3 linebacker according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Last month, Troy made his college plans official by committing to Georgia.By making the decision early, Troy can now concentrate on leading Jesuit to another state title.

During Tuesday’s Hillsborough County Media, which was put together by Varsity Sports Network, Troy talked about a number of topics. He discussed the difficulties of defending a title, as well as being a leader, his commitment to the Bulldogs and whether he currently has any bragging rights over his father.
