On Aug. 26, Alonso and Robinson, two of the nation’s premier flag football programs, will travel to Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. to square off in the Nike Kickoff Classic.
To get ready, the two teams went to Raymond James Stadium on Thursday for a surprise tour of the Buccaneers locker room, where the players were presented with their game day attire, all courtesy of Nike.
The Ravens and Knights have combined for nine state titles and have helped the sport gain national recognition. Robinson has won seven state titles, including six straight.
The NFL and Nike have invested heavily in flag football. And the success of area’s two powerhouse programs has raised the profile of the sport, so much that Nike featured both teams in an ad that ran in 2021 during the week of the Super Bowl.
