Streak snapped

Central had lost 24 straight games entering this past week, a streak that dated back to 2019. 

Years of frustrating results ended with the Bears cruising to a 47-13 victory over Lake Weir.

From the start, Central took control, building a 40-point halftime lead.  

Scintillating showdown

On Friday, Springstead hosts county rival Nature Coast in what might be the most anticipated game of the season. 

Both teams have been dominant so far this year. 

The Eagles (2-0) have won their first two games by a combined 95-7. The Sharks, meanwhile, cruised to a 45-3 win over another rival, Hernando, in their season opener.  

Prime time performers

WR Caden Bergantino, Sr., Central: Had two catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in a win over Lake Weir.

LB Madden Buratczuk, Sr., Springstead: Returned a fumble for a touchdown and had a sack in a win over Citrus.  

DB CJ Cresser, Fr., Springstead: Recorded an interception in a win over Citrus. 

RB Christian Cromer, Jr., Nature Coast: Ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries in a win over Hernando. 

ATH Tyree Davis, So., Springstead: Had three catches for 102 yards and a touchdown in a win over Citrus. 

QB Ayden Ferguson, Sr., Springstead: Completed nine of his 11 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns and scored once on the ground in a win over Citrus. 

ATH Allan Ho, Sr., Nature Coast: Finished with 164 yards and a touchdown on eight carries in a win over Hernando. 

QB Braden Joyner, Jr., Central: Accounted for 203 yards of offense (136 passing, 67 rushing) and seven touchdowns (four rushing, three passing) in a win over Lake Weir. 

RB Connor McCazzio, So., Springstead: Returned a kickoff for a touchdown in a win over Citrus. 

CB Tarrell Sherman, Sr., Central: Recorded nine tackles and picked off two passes in a win over Lake Weir. 

RB Evan Spears, Sr., Central: Ended up with four catches for 40 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Lake Weir.
