Football: Hernando County Friday night forecast — Sept. 16

Check it out

Anclote (1-1) at Central (2-1), 7

The Class 2, District 11 opener in the Suburban Division for both teams. The Bears, winners of two straight, have a chance to not only extend that streak but also move up to the top of the standings. The visiting Sharks are trying to rebound after losing to Fivay last week.

Putnam’s pick: Central 24-20

Sunlake (1-2) at Springstead (3-0), 7:30

The host Eagles have been on cruise control, winning their first three games by a combined 123-7. The last victory was the most impressive, a 28-0 romp over rival Nature Coast. That gives Springstead plenty of momentum heading into its Class, District 6 opener in the Suburban Division. After winning their season opener, the Seahawks have lost two straight.

Putnam’s pick: Springstead 31-14

Hudson (2-1) at Nature Coast (1-1), 7:30

This is a rematch of last year’s wild district clash that the host Sharks won 64-57. The teams combined for more than 1,200 yards of offense a year ago. Duplicating those numbers will be tough in the Class 2, District 11 opener in the Suburban Division.

Putnam’s pick: Nature Coast 28-26

Hernando (1-2) at Pasco (3-0), 7:30

A rivalry game with district implications. The Leopards, under new coach John Scargle, got their first win of the season, beating Citrus 21-14 in overtime last week. The host Pirates, winless last season, have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround under first-year coach Alphonso Freeney by winning their first three games.

Putnam’s pick: Pasco 28-6
