PTP Campus Tour Preview: Clearwater Central Catholic at Jesuit

Clearwater Central Catholic (4-1) at Jesuit (3-2), 7:30

Five things to know

Recent rivalry

This is the fifth straight season these private schools powers have met. Jesuit has won the past three in the series by a combined 122-50.

Despite recent history, tonight’s matchup should be competitive.

Last year, the Marauders were tied with the eventual state champions at the half before the Tigers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to go ahead for good.

Turnaround for the Tigers?

Heading into the third week of this season, Jesuit had won 17 straight games overall and 29 straight in the regular season.

Then the Tigers stumbled, losing to Miami Columbus and Armwood in consecutive weeks.

Jesuit rebounded with a 71-0 rout over Leto on Monday. But to really get back on track, the Tigers need a win over a formidable opponent. That can start tonight against Clearwater Central Catholic.

Marauders on a roll

Clearwater Central Catholic has won four of their first five games, the lone loss coming against Ocala Trinity Catholic (35-27), a game in which the Marauders stayed within striking distance until the end.

Three of the Marauders wins have come against rivals, including a 24-7 victory over defending state finalist Berkeley Prep in the season opener that exacted revenge for a pair of losses last season.

Tons of talent

Both teams have players who have already committed to major college programs.

Jesuit linebacker Troy Bowles, the son of Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles, is going to Georgia. A pair of athletes for CCC, Julian Allen (Toledo) and Nate Johnson (Boston College) also made their college plans official.

Two others, Tigers running back Joquez Smith and Marauders offensive lineman Kevin Terry, will be teammates at Temple next year. Tonight, they are rivals.
