Volleyball: Academy of the Holy Names advances to 4A state final

For the past three seasons, Academy of the Holy Names lost in the state semifinals.

On Friday, the Jaguars reached the semifinals — again.

This time, they ended years of frustration with a dominating performance.

Academy of the Holy Names swept Miami St. Brenden 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 to advance to the Class 4A state championship match for the first time since 1997.

With a veteran team aleady used to deep playoff runs, the Jaguars put together a regular season that yielded few easy nights. Those tough matches helped Academy of the Holy Names prepare for what has been a dominant postseason so far.

The Jaguars have swept each match through the first four rounds of the playoffs.

Now, they move on to the final, the goal they had all season.
