Tonight’s area region quarterfinal matchups
Class 4, Region 2
No. 8 Orlando Olympia (6-4) at No. 1 East Lake (9-1), 6

After losing their home opener to Lake Gibson, the Eagles won nine straight games to close out the regular season.

That streak helped them vault to the top seed in the region when the final rankings came out last week.

Their success is due in large part to a devastating run game that has helped East Lake average an impressive 44 points per game. In the last six games, the Eagles have scored more than 60 points twice and more than 50 once.

That production starts up front with an offensive line, led by Devonne Barry, Austin Huff and Connor Thomas, among others, who have paved the way for backs to average 9.7 yards per carry. They also have allowed just one sack all season.

The Titans, who started 2-3, won four of their last five games to get in the playoffs.

In its four wins during that stretch, Olympia allowed a combined 48 points.

No. 7 Steinbrenner (6-4) at No. 7 West Orange (6-4), 6

After letting a 26-point third quarter lead slip away in a loss to East Lake, the Warriors were 2-3 and wondering whether they would be able to make the playoffs.

Steinbrenner responded by winning four of its final five games, including the program’s first victory over Armwood. That helped the Warriors move up enough in the rankings to secure the No. 7 seed in the region.

On offense, Steinbrenner is electric, averaging 35 points per game. Four times this season, the Warriors have score more than 50 points in a game.

West Orange recovered from a three-game losing streak early in the season to win four of its final five games.

No. 3 Ocoee (6-4) at No. 6 Durant (8-2), 7:30

For the second straight season, the Cougars finished 8-2 in the regular season. Their two losses this season were by a combined six points.

One advantage Durant has playing in closely contested games. The Cougars were in three that were each decided by a point, and two others that were decided by six points or less.

One thing the Cougars have to improve on is defense. After allowing a combined 60 points in the first seven games, they gave up a combined 101 in the last three to close out the regular season.

After starting 5-1, the Knights lost three of their last four, including two straight to close out the regular season.
