Football: Class 4 region semifinal preview (Suburban) — Nov. 18

Class 4S

2022 FHSAA Football State Championships 4 S

Tonight’s area region semifinal matchup
No. 5 Mitchell (8-3) at No. 1 Lakeland (10-0), 7:30

Last week, the Mustangs beat Springstead for the second this season in the region quarterfinals. That extended Mitchell’s current win streak to five games.

Now comes the tough part.

Mitchell has to travel to play powerhouse Lakeland, which is ranked No. 1 in the class, No. 6 overall in the state and No. 17 nationally by MaxPreps.

The undefeated Dreadnaughts have outscored opponents by a combined 416-74.

Still, despite the daunting task, the Mustangs will be ready. After all, they have gone on the road to play other storied programs during their nine-year playoff run.

On offense, Mitchell will likely rely on a ball-control offense that will feature a heavy dose of quarterback Chris Ferrini, a 1,000-yard passer this season who needs just 38 yards rushing to also reach 1,000 on the ground for the year.
