Football: Class 3 region final preview (Metro) — Nov. 25

Class 3M

Largo (9-2) at Jesuit (8-4), 7:30
Outlook

Both teams have met in the preseason the past two seasons.

The Tigers dominated each of those meetings.

But this playoff matchup could end up being much more competitive.

The Packers have won three straight games. Their two losses were by a combined six points.

Largo’s success is due largely to a stingy defense that has recorded five shutouts and allowed just 74 points all season.

Last week, the Packers were clinging to a 14-12 lead in the fourth quarter when the defense forced three turnovers that helped them win comfortably, 28-12.

There are several playmakers on that side of the ball for Largo, including lineman Fotu Nafitali, linebackers Adarius Hayes and Zayvion McCluster and defensive backs Marcus McCluster, Chase Green and Ricky Shaw.

Jesuit, the defending state champion, has turned it on in the playoffs, beating St. Petersburg 52-0 and Gaither 45-10.

The Tigers have showed off their balance. Against the Green Devils, quarterback Will Griffin threw for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns. Last week against the Cowboys, Troy Bowles picked off three interceptions, returning two for scores.
