Football: CCC’s running game delivers in 21-11 victory over Carrollwood Day

Last month, Clearwater Central Catholic beat Carrollwood Day 30-6. That victory ultimately helped the Marauders clinch the Class 1, District 3 title in the Metro Division and the top seed in the region.

On Friday, the teams met again, this time with even more at stake in the region final.

Once again, CCC prevailed, jumping out to a big lead then holding on for a 21-11 victory.

The Marauders advance to the state semifinals for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons.

Much like the first meeting, CCC relied on its running game with Jershaun Newton scoring two rushing touchdowns and Lenwood Sapp adding another on the ground for a 21-3 halftime lead.

The Patriots cut into the deficit with a touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter but could get any closer.
