A strong rushing attack, a big play passing game and a suffocating defense helped the East beat the West in the Hillsborough County All-Star game. There were several awards handed out for individual awards. Here is the list.
East Offensive MVP
Vincent Ketchup, East Bay
The versatile running back, who played in a pivotal role in the Indians winning a district title, started the scoring with a 9-yard run in the first quarter. His hard running continued to set up other scoring drives throughout the game.
East Defensive MVP
RJ Stroud, Armwood
The defensive back picked off a pass in the end zone at the end of the half and provided tight coverage all night. He also played running back and had several long runs in the first half.
West Offensive MVP
Zeke Mills, Hillsborough
The running back helped the West move the ball on several drives that fell short.
West Defensive MVP
Ekyri Williams, Hillsborough
The linebacker, who had 94 tackles and an interception in the regular season for the Terriers, picked off a pass in the end zone for the East to thwart a West drive.
Play of the night
In the third quarter, Armwood quarterback Murdolph Jones heaved a 50-yard pass that was deflected before being caught in the end zone by Bloomingdale’s Kendall Jones for a touchdown and a 17-0 East lead.
Other scores
Freedom’s Lamine Diba hit a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter and Wharton’s Noah Bryant had a 1-yard run for touchdown in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring for the East.
