Here are the nominees for the Hernando County football team of the year, sponsored by the Army. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Central: The Bears snapped a 24-game losing streak that dated back to 2019 and finished the season 5-5, their best record since 2016.
Nature Coast: After starting 2-3, the Sharks closed out the regular season with five straight wins to qualify for the playoffs with an at-large bid in Class 3 of the Suburban Division. They lost to Hudson in the region quarterfinals.
Springstead: The Eagles won their first eight games, including victories over all three county opponents they played (Nature Coast, Hernando and Weeki Wachee), before finishing 9-2 and reaching the region quarterfinals in Class 4 of the Suburban Division.
