Football: Sumner forfeits eight wins for using an ineligible player — Feb. 10

Sumner had to forfeit all eight of its victories last season for using an ineligible.

Prep Time Preps was able to confirm through messages with the eight coaches that lost to the Stingrays that an email and/or letter was sent by the Florida High School Athletic Association informing them the outcome was now a forfeit.

On the field, Sumner finished 8-3 and reached the Class 7A region quarterfinals. It was the second straight playoff appearance for the third-year program.

Now, the Stingrays are 0-11.

It was unclear who the player was that ended up being ruled ineligible.

The forfeits would have had serious playoff implications had the ruling took place during the season. Bloomingdale and Newsome likely would have made the playoffs and Gaither likely would have secured a home playoff game with the additional forfeit win.
