Football: Top Pasco County running back — July 27

Here are the nominees for the top running back in Pasco County entering the season. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Saturday. 

Malachi Askin, Sr., Cypress Creek: Ended up with 941 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground for the Coyotes last season. 

Alex Cruz, Sr., Wiregrass Ranch: Ran for 379 yards and three touchdowns while at Zephyrhills Christian last season.

Cody Gwinn, Sr., Land O’ Lakes: Finished with 720 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the Class 3S region quarterfinalist Gators last season. 

Jeremiah Julmiste, Sr., Wiregrass Ranch: Takes on a more prominent role in the Bulls’ backfield-by-committee approach. 

Deanthony Patterson, Jr., River Ridge: Helped the Royal Knights win a district title by rushing for 374 yards and seven touchdowns last season.  

Jamarian Miller, Sr., Fivay: The Mitchell transfer ran for 655 yards and seven touchdowns last season. 

Antonio Muniz, Jr., Gulf: Rushed for 910 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Class 3S region quarterfinalist Buccaneers last season. 

Logan Shawell, Sr., Hudson: Ran for 1,054 yards and 12 touchdowns to help the Cobras reach the Class 2S region semifinals. 

Corey Simms, So., Mitchell: Takes on a more prominent role as featured ball carrier for the Class 4S region semifinalist Mustangs.  

Jalandis Smith, So., Pasco: Rushed for 237 yards and a touchdown for the Pirates last season. 

Rodney Smith, Sr., Zephyrhills: Finished with 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Class 3S defending region finalist Bulldogs. 

Ty Wilson, Sr., Fivay: Ended up with 786 rushing yards and four touchdowns for the Falcons last season.
