Girls lacrosse: Tampa Bay area player of the year — Aug. 1

Here are the nominees for the Tampa Bay area girls lacrosse player of the year. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Thursday. 

Lauren Brown, Sr., Academy of the Holy Names: Finished with 49 goals and 38 assists to lead the Jaguars to the Class 1A region semifinals. 

McKenzy Craig, So., Plant: Recorded 49 goals and 48 assists to help the Panthers reach the Class 2A state semifinals. 

Catalina Frey, Sr., Tampa Catholic: Ended up with 78 goals and 23 assists to guide the Crusaders to the Class 1A, District 5 final. 

Lauren Holthaus, Sr., Calvary Christian: Recorded 81 goals and 25 assists to help the Warriors reach the Class 1A region quarterfinals. 

Taylor Lapointe, Sr., Steinbrenner: Ended up with 49 goals and 21 assists for the Class 2A region finalist Warriors. 

Maggie Mashke, Sr., Pasco: Ranked sixth in the state in ground balls with 106 this past season. 

Avery Smith, Sr., Cypress Creek: Recorded 64 goals and 33 assists to lead the Coyotes to the Class 1A region semifinals. 

Jocelyn Smith, Jr., St. Petersburg Catholic: Finished with 78 goals and 36 assists to lead the Barons to the Class 1A region semifinals.
