Major league update

Mets slugger Pete Alonso, a former standout at Plant, became the first player in franchise history to have four straight seasons of 35 or more home runs.

Another former Panthers star, Kyle Tucker, is have an MVP caliber season with the Astros. He hit a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning against the Orioles earlier this week and has 13 homers and 46 RBIs in his last 39 games.


Dick’s Sporting Goods has deal for athletes, coaches

Free physicals this weekend

On Saturday, PT Solutions Physical Therapy, in partnership with Orthopedic Specialists, will be providing free physicals.

The event is from 9 a.m.-noon at Anclote High. Parents and guardians must be present for the physical. 

Who We Play For also will be providing free cardiac screenings.

Did you know?

The NFL Hall of Fame had some local trivia on Thursday, asking people to identify a player in a photo. The answer was actor Channing Tatum, who played at Tampa Catholic and graduated in 1998.

East Bay, Strawberry Crest hosting scrimmages on Saturday

East Bay and Strawberry Crest are getting ready for the upcoming football season by hosting scrimmages on Saturday.

The scrimmages will serve as training for the West Coast Officials Association. They each start at 9:30 a.m. Below is the schedule for the two sites.

Fan Votes For Top Team Continue In Each County

The fan votes, which started last month, continue with the championship rounds in HernandoPasco and Pinellas counties and the semifinals in Hillsborough County.

Stone, Cantonis shine at the US Women’s Amateur

Former Cambridge Christian standout Latanna Stone advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Women’s Amateur on Thursday.

Stone, who currently plays for LSU, completed an impressive comeback by winning with a birdie on the 20th hole to move on.

Plant’s Charlotte Cantonis, who beat the No. 2 seed in the tournament earlier this week, just missed reaching the quarterfinals.


Did you know?

Plant has the area’s top three returners in digs from last season. Bella Lee, a Florida commit, led the state with 1,056 digs. Teammate Maggie Dostic was right behind with 752 and Lara Matta was 27th in the state with 456.
