What to watch tonight

Nature Coast at Weeki Wachee, 1

The host Hornets start their season with an afternoon matchup against a Hernando County rival. The early start is by design so Weeki Wachee can have the entire student body in attendance. The tradition started last year with a home game against Seven Rivers Christian. Today’s opener is an even matchup. After all, both teams split their series last year.

Academy of the Holy Names at Keswick Christian, 6:30

This is an anticipated matchup between teams that made deep playoff runs last season. The defending Class 4A state semifinalist Jaguars are led by a trio of veterans – Michaela Clayton, Heidi Crouse and Sophia Puleo. The host Crusaders, who reached the Class 3A region final last year, also have an experienced lineup, led by Camille Holloway, Candice Holloway and Hannah Jantomaso.

Wiregrass Ranch at Bishop McLaughlin, 6:30

Two of the top teams in Pasco County square off in the opener. The Bulls, led by Haley Strawser, finished 12-10 last season. The host Hurricanes, who went 5-16 a year ago, are relying on Jacksonville State commit D’yanna Spicer to turn things around.

Osceola at Clearwater Central Catholic, 7:30

The host Marauders, who won the Class 3A state title last season, kick off their season against another perennial playoff contender from Pinellas County. The Warriors, who made the Class 5A region finals a year ago, are led by Julia Fidelis and Ashley Percifield. Despite losing some key starters, CCC still has a solid starting lineup with Taylor Bedinghaus and Josie Hensley leading the way.

Calvary Christian at Sunlake, 7:30

Taylor Parks, a Florida commit, headlines a strong lineup for Calvary Christian that was bolstered by the additions of transfers Connore Siler-Nixon (Steinbrenner) and Olivia Burns (PHU). The host Seahawks did lose Maddie Snyder, now at FSU, but still return Kendyl Okin.
