Classes resume Thursday at Tampa Bay area public schools

School district officials in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas announced that public schools in those counties will reopen and athletic activities will resume.

For the past two days, schools in the four counties were closed and athletic activities were canceled to prepare for Hurricane Idalia.

Practices and games mostly are on schedule for fall sports, which include bowling, cross country, football, golf, swimming and volleyball, on the days schools are closed.

But the football schedule has gone through significant changes.

Hillsborough County athletic director Lanness Robinson said all of the public school games scheduled for Friday have been moved to Saturday in order to give teams more time to practice.

The River Ridge at Countryside and Boca Ciega at Pinellas Park games, originally scheduled for Thursday, are now on Friday, Pinellas County athletic director Al Bennett said.

The Seminole at Tarpon Springs that was scheduled for Thursday was canceled this week, though it could be made up at a later date, Bennett said.
