Take a look at what’s ahead tonight with an area tournament and five matches to watch, along with the county schedules.

In the news

Carrollwood Day wins Florida Gem Invitational title

Another week, another solid result at a major tournament for Carrollwood Day.

The Patriots were dominant at the Florida Gem Invitational. Not only did Carrollwood Day go undefeated to take the team title in the gold bracket of the Open Division, it did not drop a set.

Naomi Chinchar was named MVP and teammates Lydia Chinchar and Mattea Casale were named to the all-tournament team. Academy of the Holy Names, which lost to the Patriots in the final, had two all-tournament selections, Michaela Clayton and Sophia Puleo.

That result comes a week after Carrollwood Day finished second in the open division of the Nike Tournament of Champions, the lone loss coming against nationally ranked Cornerstone Christian of Texas in the final.

The Patriots’ success has continued this week with wins over Berkeley Prep and Ocala Trinity Catholic.

What to watch tonight

Keswick Christian Invitational

The tournament, now in its 39th year, starts tonight and continues through Saturday. The host Crusaders, who enter on an eight-match win streak, are among the favorites for the team title. Below is tonight’s schedule.

Northeast vs. Clearwater Academy, 3

Northeast vs. Indian Rocks Christian, 4

St. Petersburg Catholic vs. Delphi Academy, 4

Bayshore Christian vs. Northside Christian, 5

Clearwater Academy vs. Indian Rocks Christian, 5

Largo vs. Delphi Academy, 6

St. Petersburg Catholic vs. Largo, 7

Clearwater Central Catholic (5-4) at Academy of the Holy Names (7-1), 6:30

The defending 3A state champion Marauders are trying to get back on track after losing three of their last four matches. The Jaguars, who reached the 4A state final a year ago, had their seven-match win streak to start the season snapped with a loss to Carrollwood Day in the final of the Open Division of the Florida Gem Invitational.

Springstead (4-6) at River Ridge (6-1), 7

Though the Eagles enter with a losing record, they are battle-tested after playing in the Nike Tournament of Champions two weeks ago. The host Royal Knights have won their last three matches via sweeps.

Wesley Chapel (8-2) at Wiregrass Ranch (6-4), 7:30

The defending state finalist Wildcats are starting to put things together with four straight wins, including victories over Land O’ Lakes and Sunlake. The host Bulls also have some momentum with three straight wins, the biggest coming in a five-set thriller over Mitchell last week.

East Lake (5-3) at Palm Harbor University (4-1), 7:30

This is a matchup that likely will decide which team represents the North in the Pinellas County Athletic Conference title match. The Eagles are coming off a strong performance at the Florida Gem Invitational. The host Hurricanes, meanwhile, bounced back from last week’s loss to St. Petersburg by sweeping Largo and Clearwater.

Osceola (5-7) at St. Petersburg (4-1), 7:45

Another matchup with PCAC title match implications. The Warriors, who reached the conference final as the South representative last season, have played a brutally tough schedule. The host Green Devils already have quality wins against East Lake and Palm Harbor University.
