Three Things To Know
Something at stake
This is the Class 4M, District 6 opener for both teams. The Hurricanes, who went 6-4 last season, would be undefeated if not for allowing a 4th-and-44 and a two-point conversion in the final minute against rival Tarpon Springs two weeks ago. Despite their 2-3 record, the Gryphons have been competitive. Two of their three losses were by a combined four points.
A dual threat duel
PHU and Sickles each have effective quarterbacks who can move the ball with their arm — and their feet. The Hurricanes’ Will Seibert, a junior, has racked up 492 yards (322 passing, 170 rushing) and nine touchdowns (five rushing, four passing) in five games. The Gryphons’ Brandon Royal, a senior, is known more for his ability to air it out, as evidenced by his 1,159 yards and 12 touchdowns passing this season. But he also is effective on the ground with 174 yards and six touchdowns rushing.
Defense, defense
Sure, the offenses have prolific playmakers but the defenses for each team have been key their success. PHU has allowed a combined 20 points in three of their wins. Sickles, meanwhile, has given up 12 points or less in their two wins.
