FHSAA board to discuss classification proposal
The Florida High School Athletic Association board of directors will have its first general meeting of the school year today in Gainesville.
Among the items discussed will be a classification proposal for all sports, including a newly formed open division in which the top teams in the power rankings would be lumped into one classification to compete for a state title.
Jesuit football assistant removed after sideline punch
As assistant football coach at Jesuit was dismissed this weekend following a physical altercation on the sideline during the regular season finale against rival Tampa Catholic.
The incident occurred as a player was running off the field. He was struck on the side of the helmet by a part-time volunteer coach on the sideline.
Jesuit president, Father Richard C. Hermes, S.J., sent an email to the parents of students Sunday explaining the incident, as well the decision to remove the coach.

Armwood football looking for games

Former Seminole standout Bobby Wilson, who led the Warhawks to a state and national title in 2001, is now a World Series champion.
After a 16-year career in the majors, Wilson joined the Texas Rangers as a coach, first as manager of their Double-A affiliate before becoming the team’s catching coordinator.
