Girls basketball: Will White returns for second stint as Northeast coach

Will White is returning for his second stint as girls basketball coach at Northeast.

Two years ago, White stepped down after coaching the Vikings for 11 seasons, ending the most successful tenure in school history.

White, who is Northeast’s athletic coordinator, left the program in 2022 to devote more time to his duties as the school’s bowling coach. Both of his sons are bowlers. The sport also went from club status in Pinellas County to being officially recognized by the Florida High School Athletic Association

He will remain as athletic director and bowling coach while adding girls basketball coach to his many titles.

“Busy guy, but I’m going to do it all,” White said.

In 11 seasons at Northeast, White had a combined record of 197-105 and led the girls basketball program to a conference championship game appearance in 2015, six playoff appearances and two trips to the region semifinals.

The program made the playoffs just once prior to his arrival and never past the first round.

Before taking over the Vikings the first time, White spent eight seasons at Boca Ciega. He compiled a 193-45 record with the Pirates, including six district championships and seven straight 20-win seasons.

During his tenure, he also kept intact the Pirates’ streak of making the playoffs for 19 seasons, the third-longest streak in the state at the time, trailing Jacksonville Ribault (21) and Fort Walton Beach (20). In three of the last four seasons, White led Boca Ciega to state final four appearances.
