The football player of the week — region quarterfinals (Nov. 12)

QB Jordan Magwood, Fr., Seffner Christian

The freshman had a tough task taking over as the starting quarterback for the defending state finalist Crusaders.

If there was pressure, Jordan Magwood did not show it.

He threw for more than 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns while leading Seffner Christian to its fourth straight playoff appearance.

Three weeks ago, Magwood had his best performance of the season when it mattered most, throwing for season-high 224 yards and had three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) to help the Crusaders beat Naples St. John Neumann 35-20 in the Class 2A region quarterfinals.

Fans were impressed. Magwood received 44 percent of the votes (1,024) in the football player of the week poll to beat out Sumner’s Kylen Webb, who had 25 percent (574 votes).
