Girls basketball player of the week — Nov. 30-Dec. 4

G/F Sy Crowley, Sr., Hernando

Last season, Sy Crowley became the go-to player for Hernando. She was the only player on the Leopards to average double figures in scoring (17.6 points per game) and led the team in rebounds (5.7 per game) and steals (3.9 per game).

This year, the senior has become even more of a force.

Crowley has scored more than 20 points in six of Hernando’s nine games this season. She currently is averaging 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.3 steals per game.

Those numbers are a big reason the Leopards have started the season 9-0.

Two weeks ago, Crowley averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game in wins over Nature Coast, Weeki Wachee and Central.

Fans were impressed. Crowley received 57 percent of the votes (2,248) in the girls basketball player of the week poll to beat out Weeki Wachee’s Princess Hester, who had 20 percent (829 votes).
