The boys basketball player of the week — Nov. 30-Dec. 4

G Tobias Gunter, Jr., Northside Christian

The starters for Northside Christian’s boys basketball team are ironmen on hardwood. After all, there are just six players on the roster, at least according to MaxPreps.

That means there are hardly any breathers. It can be exhausting staying on the court for an entire game.

But it also can produce big-time stats.

Tobias Gunter has certainly benefited. The junior has averaged a double-double in every game while working as an inside presence for the Mustangs.

Take his performance two weeks ago.

Gunter Averaged a double-double for the week (15 points and 10 rebounds per game) in wins over Canterbury, Carrollwood Day, Clearwater Central Catholic and Sebring. That helped the Mustangs get off to a solid start.

Fans took notice. Gunter received 48 percent of the votes (1,480) in the boys basketball player of the week poll to beat out Central’s Caden Bergantino, who had 41 percent (1,264 votes).
