G Kayla Ludwig, Jr., Newsome

The two-sport star helped Newsome win a state flag football title last year. 

On the court, Kayla Ludwig has played just as pivotal a role in the Wolves’ success. 

After steady contributions the past two years, Ludwig is having a breakout season, averaging career highs in points (10.2), rebounds (4.6) steals (2.8) and assists (2.1) per game. 

Two weeks ago, she recorded 18 points, six rebounds and four steals in a win over St. Petersburg Catholic. 

Fans were impressed. Ludwig had 46 percent of the votes (522) in the Hillsborough County girls basketball player of the week poll to beat out Bloomingdale’s Melody Womack, who had 24 percent (278 votes).
