The Florida High School Athletic Association released the new football classification and district assignments. The realignment is for a two-year cycle starting in the fall of this year. There will now be two divisions involving area teams, Metro and Suburban, both of which are based on population sizes of counties rather than strictly enrollment figures. Districts are included in each division. In classes 2A-4A of each division, the district champion automatically qualifies for the playoffs and the other four at-large spots in each region are determined by power rankings. In 1A of both divisions, the district champion automatically qualifies for the postseason and the other two at-large spots are determined by power rankings.
