Pinellas County baseball player of the week – Feb. 28-March 5

Here are the nominees for the Pinellas County baseball player of the week. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Saturday. 

P/1B Trey Beard, Jr., Dunedin: Struck out 15 of the 16 batters he faced (the other was a walk) in five innings of work to lead the Falcons to a win over Northeast. 

INF/C/P Dominic Merrer, Sr., East Lake: Finished a combined 6-for-10 with a double, a triple, six RBIs and five runs scored in wins over Northside Christian, Osceola and Clearwater that kept the Eagles undefeated. 

P Liam Peterson, Jr., Calvary Christian: Threw three perfect innings with eight strikeouts on the mound and had two hits at the plate, including a double, in a win over Tampa Catholic. 

P/1B Tyler Saunders, Jr., Seminole: Threw a no-hitter (one walk away from a perfect game) and finished with 14 strikeouts in a win over Pinellas Park. 

P/OF Joshua Velverde, Fr., Largo: Threw a five-inning perfect game and recorded nine strikeouts in a win over Sarasota Booker.
