Outlook

Last season, Shawn Davis guided Northeast to a 9-2 record and a trip to the region quarterfinals in his first season as coach. To keep that momentum, the Vikings had to replace some key players who graduated. The biggest loss was D’Angelo Hutchinson, the playmaking quarterback and defensive back who is now at Louisville. Evan Jacobson, a transfer from St. Petersburg, takes over at quarterback. His top target is Cory Conklin, who had a team-leading 358 yards and four touchdowns last season. The rushing attack has more depth, which will help ease the load on Markese Norfleet (839 yards, nine touchdowns). He will likely share the load with Mikale Washington, Keonte Williams and Virgil Wooten. The top returners on defense are linebackers KJ Hutchinson (95 tackles) and Derrick Brantley (57 tackles, 9 ½ sacks). And watch out for defensive tackle Treveon James, a 285 pound true freshmen who has been tearing it up in practice.
