Football: Pinellas County Defensive player of the week — Sept. 2

Here are the nominees for the Pinellas County defensive player of the week. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Sunday. 

LB Rico Freeman, Sr., Boca Ciega: Finished with nine tackles, had a fumble recovery and blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown in a win over Seminole. 

LB Dylan Freese, Jr., Osceola: Recorded 11 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in a win over Palm Harbor University. 

DL Chris Kalu, Jr., Largo: Ended up with 16 tackles and a sack in a win over Pinellas Park. 

LB Matthew Miles, So., Northside Christian: Finished with three tackles, 1 ½ sacks and a fumble recovery. 

LB Elijah Mills, Sr., Countryside: Recorded 14 tackles and one interception in a win over Dun

S Carson Schiavello, Sr., Clearwater Central Catholic: Ended up with seven tackles and three sacks in a win over Berkeley Prep. 

LB Novian Smarwt, Sr., St. Petersburg: Finished with nine tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in a win over Tarpon Springs. 

DL Taveon Wheeler, Sr., Lakewood: Recorded nine tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in a win over Northeast.
