Turnaround teams

Three teams – East Lake, Northeast and Palm Harbor – all lost their season openers to quality opponents. Since then, the trio has bounced back nicely with each winning their last two games to climb above .500.

First win for Auggie Sanchez

Seminole’s Auggie Sanchez, who was hired this summer to take over the program, led the Warhawks to a 12-0 victory over Dunedin. It was the first win for Sanchez, a former standout at Northeast and USF.

De-fense! De-fense!

Largo remains undefeated after a 21-0 victory over Boca Ciega. The Packers’ strong start is due in large part to a defense, led by linebackers Adarius Hayes and Zayvion McCluster and lineman Chris Kalu, that has yet to allow a point this season. On Friday, Largo will try to keep its scoreless streak intact when it travels to Gibbs.

Rousing rivalry results

Clearwater Central Catholic has already knocked off two of its fiercest rivals. The Marauders beat defending state finalist Berkeley Prep 24-7 in the season opener and got past Tampa Catholic 28-14 on Friday.
