FHSAA alters state championship schedules due to Tropical Storm Nicole

The Florida High School Athletic Association has altered state championship schedules in golf, swimming and volleyball as safety precautions in preparation for Tropical Storm Nicole. 

Clearwater Central Catholic, which made the state title match for the first time since 2014, will play for the 3A championship at 7 p.m. Sunday at Polk State College in Winter Haven instead of Friday.

The Class 1A and 2A state swimming meets, initially scheduled for this weekend at Stuart’s Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center, have been moved to Nov. 17-18. 

Tuesday’s Class 2A state golf tournament finished with an abbreviated 18-hole stroke play final. 

The 1A state tournament, held at the Mission Inn Resort, will take place Friday and Saturday with an abbreviated 18-hole stroke play final  The 2A tournament remains as scheduled (practice round on Nov. 14 and championship rounds on Nov. 15-16). 

So far, the quarterfinal rounds of the football playoffs have not been impacted, at least in the Tampa Bay area. 

Friday’s games are still on for now in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. If there is significant damage, games would be moved to Saturday night.
