This is a rematch from the regular season game the Marauders won 30-6 that ultimately helped them clinch the Class 1, District 3 title in the Metro Division.

In that game, Clearwater Central Catholic ran for 331 yards, including 185 from Lenwood Sapp and 82 from Jershaun Newton. The Marauders defense also was stellar, holding the Patriots to 168 yards of offense.

Clearwater Central Catholic has won nine straight games. And the Marauders keep getting better, especially on offense.

They have scored 63 points in each of the last three games. Newton has passed more than 1,000 yards (1,822) and rushed for more than 1,000 (1,046).

The offensive line, led by Shane Elam and Kevin Terry, among others, is pivotal to that success. They paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushers (Sapp is the other with 1,099).

Since the loss to the Marauders, Carrollwood Day has won two straight games, outscoring Cambridge Christian and Northside Christian by a combined 58-9.

Anthony Carrie, the Patriots’ top running back, had two of his best performances of the season during this current streak, rushing for a combined 325 yards and four touchdowns in the last two games.
