Volleyball: Carrollwood Day hires former Bishop McLaughlin coach Doug Chinchar to take over the program — Dec. 26

Carrollwood Day has hired former Bishop McLaughlin volleyball coach Doug Chinchar to take over the program.

Chinchar replaces Chad Mercado, who left after two seasons.

This past season, Chinchar served as an assistant for the Patriots, who went 20-7, won the Class 3A, District 9 title and lost in five sets to Tampa Prep in the region quarterfinals.

His daughters, Naomi and Lydia, were two of Carrollwood Day’s top players. Both return next season.

Chinchar coached at Bishop McLaughlin for 11 seasons. He led the Hurricanes to state semifinal appearances three straight seasons (2018-20), including a state final appearance in 2018.

This is the second coaching involving a Hillsborough County private school program in the past week. Berkeley Prep hired Plant’s Sarah Reiss to take over its program four days ago.
