What to watch

Palm Harbor University (1-0) at East Lake (1-0), 7

The rivals have staged some epic battles on the field for years. 

But tonight’s game is about more than just the outcome. 

The Eagles are hosting their 14th annual Strike Out Cancer Game. 

Luminaries bearing the names of survivors as well as those who lost their battle with cancer line the sidewalk leading up to the field. Balloons representing the colors of each type of cancer are tied to the bleachers. East Lake’s players make signs of support.

Coaches and administrators anticipate this one being the biggest one yet. More than 250 tickets were sold in the days leading up to the event. 

This year, the Eagles are adopting Tony Lange, a longtime volunteer at Palm Harbor Little League who lost his battle with cancer earlier this month. All proceeds are going to the family to help with medical expenses. 

Sickles (1-0) at Bloomingdale (1-0), 7

This is the first time the teams have met since 2021. The Bulls won that epic battle, 4-3 in eight innings. There could be more offense this time, at least based on the production in their openers. Each team scored 11 runs in convincing wins to start the season.  

Plant (1-0) at Steinbrenner (1-0), 7

Both teams are in Class 7A, District 7, so the game has even more meaning. The Warriors won each of the first two meetings last season by a run, then fell to the Panthers in the district semifinals.
