Flag football: Tampa Bay defensive player of the year — July 20

Here are the nominees for the Tampa Bay flag football defensive player of the year. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Saturday. 

Grayce Bird, Jr., Lennard: Picked off 13 passes and recorded 31 tackles (flag pulls) for the Class 2A region finalist Longhorns.  

Ella Bode, Sr., Alonso: Recorded 30 sacks for the Class 2A state champion Ravens. 

Maddie Bridges, Sr., Steinbrenner: Finished with 22 sacks for the Class 2A region semifinalist Warriors. 

Tarriyah Burr, Jr., Gibbs: Picked off 12 passes to help the Gladiators reach the Class 1A region semifinalist Gibbs. 

Brasia Carter, Sr., Tarpon Springs: Led the area in interceptions with 18 for the Spongers this season. 

Berkeley Detemer, So., Steinbrenner: Recorded 46 tackles (flag pulls) and five interceptions for the Class 2A region semifinalist Warriors.  

Julia Guillermo, Sr., Robinson: Finished with 89 tackles (flag pulls) and 34 sacks for the Class 1A state champion Knights.  

Theresa Hospodarek, Sr., Newsome: Recorded 10 interceptions and 44 tackles for the Class 2A region semifinalist Wolves.  

Eryn Klaus, Sr., Alonso: Ranked third in the state in tackles (flag pulls) with 131 for the Class 2A champion Ravens.  

Carsyn Lathrop, Sr., Osceola: All-state selection helped the Warriors reach the Class 1A region quarterfinals. 

Maggie Lauber, Sr., Durant: The Cougars top all-around player recorded 25 tackles and 10 interceptions. 

Natalia Quiles, Sr., Riverview: Finished with 49 tackles and six interceptions for the Sharks this season.  

T’Liyah Wright, Sr., Armwood: Picked off a team-high seven passes for the Class 2A region quarterfinalist Hawks.
