Three things to know

Another thriller?

Last season’s meeting was a memorable one. There were 43 points scored in the fourth quarter. Sumner, led by the dual-threat capabilities of quarterback Greg Smith, outlasted Bloomingdale 44-32 on the field (the Stingrays later had to forfeit the win because of an ineligible player). Smith ended up throwing for 258 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 82 and another score. In all, the teams produced a combined 858 yards of offense.

The Stingrays’ star power

Sumner has a roster full of college prospects. Quarterback Greg Smith III, a three-star recruit, has an extensive list of offers, including one from Florida State. His top pass protector, offensive lineman Ziyare Addison, is a four-star talent in the 2025 class. Running back Devin Spencer is an Arkansas State commit. Tyler Williams, another junior, is a gifted receiver with offers from Boston College, Iowa State and Mississippi, among others.

Fresh start

Bloomingdale first-year head coach Patrick Murphy is a veteran of Hillsborough County football. He spent six seasons at Sickles (2016-21) before accepting the job at Chamberlain last year, then leaving in the offseason to take a year off. With the Bulls, Murphy inherits a program that was a consistent playoff contender under previous coach Jacob Coulson. On offense, the team will rely on the playmaking abilities of sophomore quarterback Dillon Rose-Bailey, who threw for 1.048 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
