Wharton (3-4) At Bloomingdale (2-6), Tonight, 7:30

Three Things To Know

In playoff contention

Sure, Wharton has started 3-4 but that has a lot to do with their schedule. The Wildcats’ four losses have come against Armwood, Jesuit, Sumner and Tampa Bay Tech, which are a combined 26-4 this season. The toughest loss came last week when Wharton let a 20-0 lead slip away in a loss to the Titans. Still, despite those setbacks, the Wildcats are holding on to the No. 8 spot in the Class 3M, Region 1 rankings, good enough for the final at-large berth. To stay there, Wharton has to keep winning.

Bloomingdale bouncing back

The Bulls had a similar tough start to the season. They lost their first five games playing a brutal stretch that included matchups against Armwood, Durant, Sumner and Tampa Bay Tech. Since then, the Bulls have won two of their past three games. The turnaround is due in large part to the playmaking ability of quarterback Dillon Rose Bailey and a defense that allowed a combined 21 points in both wins.

Star power

Pass rushing fans will be able to check one of the best in the area. Wharton’s Booker Pickett Jr., who committed to Miami on Thursday, has recorded 10 sacks so far this season and has 70 in his career.
