Games of the night

Northside Christian 22, Indian Rocks Christian 21

For the second straight season, the Mustangs won the Class 1M, District 4 title by beating one of its biggest rivals.

Unlike last year (a 47-4 victory), this championship was much more difficult to obtain.

Down 21-8 in the second half, Northside Christian rallied with two scores, the last coming with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter.

And the Mustangs did it without their starting quarterback, Chase Burrill, who was hurt last week and is out for the season.

Zuri Watson ran for two touchdowns and Blake Van Wormer threw to Blaise Reynolds for another score.

Clearwater Academy 35, Lakeland 34

The Knights have a knack for winning with some last minute panache.

Last week, Clearwater Academy scored on a desperation heave at the end of regulation to beat Sarasota Riverview.

On Friday, the dramatics continued.

Down 27-10 to defending Class 4S state champion Lakeland , the Knights kept rallying to get back into the game. With 4:02 left in regulation, Clearwater Academy blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown that turned out to be the winning score.

Shorecrest 43, Donahue Catholic 0

The matchup between two of the state’s top ranked teams in eight-man football turned out to be no contest.

The two-time defending state champion Chargers remain undefeated with their second shutout in their last three games.

Largo 40, Lakewood 16

The Packers exacted revenge for last year’s two-point loss to the Spartans in a big way.

Jeremy Thomas scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one passing) in the first half to help Largo jump out to a 27-9 lead.

On Friday, the Packers travel to Osceola to play for the Class 3M, District 7 title.

Calvary Christian 35, Lakeland Christian 7

The Warriors, the top-ranked team in Class 2M, Region 2, had no trouble getting past the Vikings, the top team in 1S, Region 3.

Jacob Drackett threw three touchdown passes, two to Josh Robinson and another to Blair Callahan. And Sean Cuono ran for two scores.

Calvary Christian has now won five straight games.

Palm Harbor University 20, Seminole 0

The Hurricanes bounced back from last week’s loss to Steinbrenner by recording their ninth shutout in school history.

Mykhel Boebert had two rushing touchdowns and Mitch Stricker connected on a pair of field goals to provide the points.

On Friday, PHU faces rival East Lake for the Class 4M, District 6 title.

Clearwater 22, East Lake 14

After losing to Calvary Christian a week ago, the Tornadoes got back on track with a quality win.

Jaylen White ran for a touchdown and threw for another to DJ Avant. Ti’lan McGee also scored on a run.
