Region 2
Berkeley Prep (11-2) at Plantation American Heritage (10-1), 7:30

This is the Buccaneers’ third state semifinal appearance in the past four seasons. They are trying to advance to the championship game for the second time in program history. After starting 3-2, Berkeley Prep has won eight straight games. That streak is due in large part to a punishing running game led by Dallas Golden and Joseph Troupe, who have each gained more than 1,000 yards on the ground this season. But the offense is displaying even more balance thanks to the emergence of freshman quarterback Cooper Hayes, who threw for 198 yards in last week’s region final win over Calvary Christian. That total was more than double his previous best this season. The ability to move the ball in a variety of ways will help in a game that could turn into a shootout. After all, America Heritage has scored more than 38 points in each of its last six games. The Patriots, ranked second in the class, seventh overall in the state and 15th nationally by MaxPreps, are trying to make the championship game for the seventh time since 2012 and aiming for their sixth state title during that span.
