Girls basketball: Tampa Bay area report — Jan. 29, 2024

There are plenty of quality matchups to check out tonight to kick off the final week of the regular season.

What to watch tonight

Steinbrenner (17-4) at Wharton (19-2), 6:30

The Warriors are coming off perhaps their two biggest wins of the season, beating River Ridge in overtime and Sickles to extend their current win streak to eight games. The host Wildcats will be motivated after a loss to undefeated Bloomingdale last week ended their four-game win streak.

Sumner (18-3) at Sickles (18-4), 7

The Stingrays, winners of four straight games, have only two losses against Hillsborough County opponents (against Bloomingdale and Wharton). The Gryphons, meanwhile, are trying to rebound after a loss to Steinbrenner last week that snapped their five-game win streak.

Seffner Christian (18-4) at Gibbs (12-6), 8

After starting the season 16-2, the Crusaders have gone 2-2 in their last four games, all against quality competition. Since going 1-2 during a three-game stretch earlier this month, the Gladiators have won four straight games, all by 19 or more points.
