Boys soccer: Tampa Bay area report — Feb. 9, 2024

The boys soccer playoffs continue tonight with the region semifinals in Classes 4A-2A. Here are the capsules for the area teams in each class.

Class 4A
Region 3

No. 5 Robinson (12-8-2) at No. 1 DeSoto County (16-2-1), 7

The knights continued their success by beating Fort Myers Gateway 3-2 in the quarterfinals to extend their win streak to five matches. Now comes the hard part — a matchup with the Bulldogs, the top seed in the region. DeSoto advanced with an 8-0 quarterfinal victory over Anclote. During their current four-match win streak, the Bulldogs have outscored foes by a combined 25-2.

Class 3A
Region 2

No. 5 Berkeley Prep (7-6-4) at No. 1 Tampa Prep (15-1-2), 7

This is a rematch from the 3A-7 district final that the host Terrapins won 2-0. The Buccaneers bounced back with a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Windermere Prep. Ben Larguier, Blake Miller and Harris Rangin each scored goals to lead Berkeley Prep. For the Terrapins, ranked first in the class, fourth overall in the state and 10th nationally by MaxPreps, the quarterfinals were a breeze. They won 7-0 over Frostproof. The top scorers were Asher Jones (two goals, two assists), Danny Alvarez (two goals, one assist) and Phillip Lewis (two assists, one goals).

Class 2A
Region 3

No. 4 Shorecrest (7-3-3) at No. 1 Carrollwood Day (14-2-1), 6

The host Patriots won the first matchup 3-0 in November. Carrollwood Day, ranked second in the class by MaxPreps, have gone 12-0-1 in their last 13 matches. In the quarterfinals, the Patriots beat Naples First Baptist Academy 5-0. Juan Garanton scored twice to lead Carrollwood Day. The Chargers outlasted Bradenton Christian in the quarterfinals, winning 4-3 in penalty kicks. Alistair Ford scored two goals and Manny Escamilla assisted on two in regulation.
