Girls soccer: Tampa Bay area report — Feb. 9, 2024

The girls soccer playoffs continue tonight with the region semifinals in Classes 4A-2A. Here are the capsules for the area teams in each class.

Class 4A
Region 3

No. 4 Dunedin (12-2-2) at No. 1 Academy of the Holy Names (10-4-1), 7

The Falcons advanced with a 3-2 triple overtime victory over Lemon Bay in the quarterfinals to extend their win streak to 10 matches. Siena Howell, Ava Marchido and Kelsey Radel each scored for Dunedin. Now, the Falcons have their toughest challenge by traveling to take on the top-seeded Jaguars. In the quarterfinals, Academy of the Holy Names cruised to an 8-0 victory over Fort Myers Gateway. Megan Hyer assisted on three goals and scored two of her own and teammate Carolina Ward added two goals and an assist to lead the Jaguars.

Class 3A
Region 2

No. 3 Berkeley Prep (15-4) at No. 1 Fort Myers Bishop Verot (17-1-1), 7

The Buccaneers, ranked sixth in the class by MaxPreps, have won six straight matches after beating Windermere Prep 7-3 in the quarterfinals. Kate Anderson finished with two assists and a goal and Izzy Youssef had a goal and an assist to lead Berkeley Prep. The host Vikings are ranked sixth in the class and 21st nationally by MaxPreps. Bishop Verot advanced with a 6-0 win over Oasis in the quarterfinals.

Class 2A
Region 3

No. 4 Carrollwood Day (12-4-2) at No. 1 Shorecrest (7-3-3), 7

This is a rematch from the 2A-9 district final that the Patriots won in penalty kicks. Carrollwood Day advanced with a 4-0 quarterfinal victory over Bradenton Saint Stephen’s. Kate and Taylor Latini each scored twice for the Patriots. Despite the district final loss, the host Chargers were still able to claim the top seed in the region thanks to their challenging schedule. Shorecrest bounced back in the quarterfinals with a 4-0 victory over Indian Rocks Christian.
