Outlook

This is a semifinal matchup of local programs that are surging at the right time. After going through a midseason slump, the Wildcats turned things around with six straight wins to get to the final four. Pitching has been key with Wesley Chapel posting shutouts in three of those victories and allowing just six runs during its current streak. But the offense has delivered, too, with an average of more than seven runs each in the last six games. The defending state finalist Tigers are in position to win it all this time thanks to an explosive offense that can put up monster numbers. After all, Jesuit scored 16 runs in one inning to beat Osceola via mercy rule in the region semifinals. That type of production is a big reason Jesuit, ranked No. 1 in the class by MaxPreps, is on an 11-game win streak. How well the Tigers’ offensive depth fares against the Wildcats’ surplus of arms will be one of the big focal points today.
