Boys basketball: Jesuit hosts Mike Evans’ alma mater

On Friday, Jesuit’s boys basketball team hosted Ball High from Galveston, Texas.

The matchup came together courtesy of one of Ball’s most famous graduates, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ receiver Mike Evans.

This past spring, Evans organized a trip for the Ball basketball team to attend the Buccaneers’ game against the Bills. The Ball coaching staff reached out to Jesuit coach Neal Goldman about scheduling a pair of games this weekend in the Tampa area.

Friday’s game, which Jesuit won 64-56, was part of a weekend package. Today, Ball will play Wharton at noon. The game is part of a doubleheader that Jesuit is hosting. The Tigers play Brooks DeBartolo at 1:30 p.m. in a matchup of unbeatens.

Evans attended Friday’s game. Afterward, the teams took a picture together.

A two-sport star in high school, Evans played three seasons of varsity basketball at Ball, averaging 15.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game from 2008-11.
